The Story
Austro-Hungarian-born American composer (1897-1957), particularly well-known for the highly successful opera "Die Tote Stadt", which he composed in 1920 at age 23. Unsigned playbill for an early performance (NOT the world premiere) of the opera conducted by him at the Vienna State Opera in June 1921, with an attached ticket stub, total unfolded item is 8.5 x 11 inches, and is in excellent condition.Â
ALSO INCLUDED: 3 unsigned postcard photographs of singers associated with this opera: two are of Norwegian tenor Karl Aagaard Ăstvig (1889-1968) who frequently performed the role of Paul (though not in the performance listed on this playbill), shown in this role, both photos by Setzer, Vienna State Opera (one blind stamped on front, the other stamped on verso), size of each is 3.25 x 5.25 inches, in excellent condition. The other photograph is of German soprano Marie Guntheil-Schoder (1874-1935) - who IS in the attached playbill, shown here in the role of Marietta. This photo is also blind stamped by Setzer, 3.25 x 5.25 inches, in excellent condition. Fascinating vintage material! Not sold separately.Â
