Fantastic ink self-caricature of the star Italian tenor shown as Edgardo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, made by himself on a sheet of paper with the letterhead of the Palace Hotel, San Francisco, California, signed boldly by him, dated in 1905.
Caruso's note translates "Dear young lady, thank you for your postcards. Since I don't have any I will send you a sketch".
ON VERSO there are two cards: one signed by Olive Fremstad and Alois Burgstaller with a half-tone image of him.
This is where Caruso stayed the following year during the famous earthquake that hit the city, causing huge destruction.
Caricature page is 5.5 x 8.5 inches, attached to a black album page for a total size of 6.7 x 9.8 inches, in very good condition.
ALSO INCLUDED are 2 black-and-white unsigned photographs of the tenor; each one is 7 x 9.3 inches, ink-stamped on verso by photographer Emini, Milan. A very nice set to frame with the gorgeous caricature!
