The Story

American modernist composer (1908-2012), and one of the most recognized figures in American orchestral music during the second half of the 20th century.

Volume of the poem "Winds" (Vents) by St. John Perse, this is the copy of this book that Carter used for New York Philharmonic´s commission of the Concerto for Orchestra, a piece by Carter composed for the celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the orchestra.

Concerto for Orchestra was written by Carter in 1969 on commission for the New York Philharmonic, and premiered on February 5th, 1970 by the New York Philharmonic.

It is one of Carter´s most famous pieces. See more information HERE.

Hardcovers, 193 numbered pages, 2nd edition, first printing, 1961, by Pantheon Books. Size is 6.25 x 9.25 inches, a small bump ("dog ears") on the top border of the front cover and minor stains on page 165, but in overall excellent condition.
