The Story

Austrian composer (1824-1896) and organist best known for his symphonies and sacred music, with includes Masses, Te Deum, and motets.

Contract for the publication of the composer's Symphony No.8 signed by the composer and his publisher Max von Oberleithner on verso at the bottom of the page, dated in Vienna, 1891.  Size is 8.9 x 11.25 inches, 1 sheet handwritten on both sides, folds, small hole at the center, sold with its full transcription and translation.

Max von Oberleithner (1868-1935) was a close friend, private pupil, and editor of Anton Bruckner to whom he dedicated his Psalm 150. Oberleithner published a book on the life of Bruckner later on.  The contract was signed the previous year of the world premiere of the 8th symphony in 1892 under the baton of the famed conductor Hans Richter.
