Signed program for a farewell concert recital of the celebrated American contralto, the first black person, American or otherwise, to perform at the at the Metropolitan Opera and an inspiration to many future African American performers.
This recital was part of a nationwide farewell concert tour and took place at the Edward C. Elliott Hall of Music on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, in 1965. The program is signed by her on the cover page. When unfolded, this is a 4-page program containing a list of all the pieces performed, as well as texts for several of the pieces performed. Size of each page of the program is 6 x 9 inches, in excellent condition.
